A Trip to Virornus (Finnish Game Jam - 2020)

A Unity game project made with a team of coders, artists and a sound designer during a single weekend.

My task: Programming (Shield, ship hull integrity, object damage, repairing, gravity(?), oxygen, etc…)

The players must keep their space ship up and running by constantly repairing the damage caused by the asteroids and EMP-fields. In case your teammates happen to die, you can repair them too. Our game was inspired by FTL: Faster Than Light, and it has awesome music that reminds me of Stellaris.

As a coder, I had some part in most of the game mechanics, including the algorithm for checking hull integrity. The ship is divided into segments, which lose their oxygen supply and gravity if there is a breach.

This is a local multiplayer game for 1-4 players, designed to be played with Nintendo Switch Joycon controllers. It can also be played without the Switch controllers, if you can fit all players on one keyboard.

Known bugs

  • The game has a lot of bugs

  • Difficulty of the game is not adjusted at all (Can you win it? I don’t know)
